Surah Ar-Rahman (6 Sept 2013)

Alhamdullilah, Yesterday i got my opportunity to go to a lecture taught by Brother Nourman Ali Khan. It was held at Masjid Willayah at Jalan DutaMas 1.

Ok. straight to the point. Although I can't catch up with everything he said, I want to share some of the clear lesson that Brother Nourman Ali has given through out the lecture.

First, he made an introduction to understand the reasoning of this particular surah and how to put it in the right context. At first, he discuss about the arts of communication, he did mention about three important elements in communication. The three elements are

1. content
 watever it is that u want to say, u must has something to deliver isn't it. or else it will be blablablabla..
2. style
For this, he made a simple example of a husband wanted to complain that his wife cooking has not enough salt. So he made few scenarios of the husband  who can choose to complain in a proper manner or to complain with bad attitude. (I laughed during this part). So no matter what, we should always say something in a nice way.  
3. Audiance
  simple example, We will not talk to our parents the same way aswe talk to a 3 year-old kid. So you have to consider how they are related to you and their background.

In Short, This three elements are strongly related to Al-Quran. Al-Quran has the best contents well conveyed in the best style and depending on the condition of the Community during the time of surah being delivered.

For Surah Ar-Rahman, it was sent down during the very end of Maccan period/Makiyyah.(extra info: roughly 2/3 of the Surah in Al-Quran  is Makkiyah + he convey message of Islam for 12 years in Macca). During the time, the people have become so stubborn because they had been listening to rasullululah's teaching(same messages through out the years) for over along time. The comunnity of meccan Kuffar became extremely stubborned. Imagine listening to the same thing over many years but not accepting it, building up the egoism and stubborn. This is why the surah has this one repeatation after another of the ayat

         

"So which of the favour of your lord would you deny?"

Which really show how stubborn they are. So this is why the surah was conveyed in this style.

Insyaallah there are more to come. This is just one part of it that i had learned. Assalamualaikum~
